General Course Description

The Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician Program (MCDST) credential is designed for IT professionals working in the typically complex computing environment of medium to large organizations that have a computer help desk. This program is geared toward Help Desk Professionals, Desktop Support Technicians, and PC Support positions.

 

Audience
MCDST is an ideal program for anyone who wishes to gain a basic understanding of computer network technology to help support other users. The course is suited for novice computer users looking to upgrade their skills in order to successfully perform as an entry-level help desk support technician.

 

Prerequisites
A basic understanding of computers, networking and the Internet is suggested, but not necessary.

Help desk technicians respond to inquiries and requests for assistance with the organization's computer systems or PCs. Typically, an support technician identifies problems, troubleshoots, and provides advice to assist users. They also coordinate with other IS areas to resolve problems if necessary. Help desk support technicians may operate in a mainframe and/or microcomputer  environment.
